Dreams come true for ‘Angel Eyes’ mum
Published: November 10, 2005
A Kildare mother who has worked tirelessly for a charity established in her daughter’s honour was rewarded with a surprise fairytale wedding as part of the new RTÉ Dreams Come True TV show.
The Sallins mother behind the Angel Eyes charity will be the star of the show, due to be screened at the end of the month. The programme will show Frances Ward from Sallins Bridge as she is surprised by camera crews and producers of the show early one morning – right through to the all-expenses paid wedding they had planned for her. The whirlwind sequence of events will be screened as part of the RTÉ fly-on-thewall documentary.
Frances, who set up the Angel Eyes charity having being inspired by her seriously visually-impaired daughter Victoria (4), was nominated for the programme. Producers were so touched by her work that they decided to embark on the biggest ‘surprise’ of the series for Frances. Speaking from her Sallins home, the bubbly mother of two told the Kildare Nationalist that she still can’t believe her good luck. “This was the biggest dream they undertook and I think I really blew their budget,” she smiled.
“The whole thing was like a fairytale. It is unreal. They arrived at my door at 7.50am one Friday morning, camera crews and all, and told me I had been chosen for the programme and that they were going to make my dream come through. I nearly died! I said straight out: ‘Is this a f***ing wind up?’ I was in shock,” she laughed. Researchers for the show had previously contacted Frances’s parents and secretly fished around for ideas for making her dream come true.
Considering Frances and her partner Pierce had been engaged for over ten years and living happily with their two children, Victoria and Pierce Jr (10), producers quickly suggested a surprise wedding.
