100 passengers rescued after boat capsizes

A cargo boat also carrying around 100 passengers sank on Monday off Bangladesh’s southeastern Chittagong district, although all aboard were believed safe, police said.
“Another boat was nearby and rescued most of the passengers,” Chittagong district Sub-Inspector Abdul Latif told AFP by telephone from the scene. “Some rescue speedboats and some other trawlers also went to the spot and we think that they managed to rescue the rest of the passengers,” he added.
The Al Madina sank in calm conditions as it made the one-hour journey between Sandwip Island in the Bay of Bengal and the town of Kumira in Chittagong district.
