Pupils put on a spread for charity in ‘pink palace’

Published: November 3, 2005

THE dining hall at a Bushey school was transformed into a “pink palace” on Thursday, October 20, when Year 11 pupils invited their parents to a charity dinner as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Parents at St Margaret’s School, Merry Hill Road, were treated to a sumptuous spread and were waited on hand and foot by their daughters who were all dressed in pink.

Raffle tickets had been sold in school all week, with prizes donated by local businesses and parents.

Denyelle Noble, one of the girls who organised the event, said: “It’s been really great working so hard for such a worthwhile cause. We spent all week practising musical arrangements, painting t-shirts, preparing seating plans and menus, and decorating the room.

“Our dinner rounded off the school’s Wear Pink Day, where the whole school paid one pound to wear pink in support of Breast Cancer Care. I even saw our chairman of governors, Peter Faulkner, wearing a very cool pink shirt when he came on campus during the day. I hope he paid his £1!”

Anette Corbach, head of Year 11, said: “I am really proud of the girls. Every year they put so much effort into raising money for a wide range of different charities.

“This year the interest in Breast Cancer Care was so great we decided to devote our annual charity dinner to it.”
