Community builds giant ribbon for cancer awareness

Members of the public have built a giant pink ribbon of hope for breast cancer awareness at Menlyn Shopping Centre in Tshwane. Messages of hope and tributes to those who fought and others who succumbed to the disease were posted on the ribbon.
Jacqui Taljaard, the spokesperson for the Cancer Association of South Africa (Cansa), urged all women to get their breasts checked on a regular basis. Cansa has satellite offices across the country and mobile clinics that go into rural areas.
“We work with their local clinics as well, so we do go out there we do breast examinations with them and then we refer them to their local doctors or clinics,” said Taljaard. Reports say more women in the country are dying of breast cancer than any other form of disease.
