Girl, horse reunited
Published: October 20, 2005
What was a sad story has a happy ending.
Brad and Lisa Woodard found a 3-year-old quarter horse for the right price at a weekend sale in Veedersburg. They brought it home for their 10-year-old daughter, Andrea, who had been pining for a horse so much she was saving money from cupcakes she was making and selling.
But after returning from church Sunday, the family discovered the gate to their property knocked down and the horse gone.
After continuous praying, Brad had the foresight to check a large cornfield in front of the Woodards’ home near Shades State Park Tuesday night. Sure enough, they found the horse walking down the road toward them.
“You couldn’t even tell the horse had been in the cornfield, because it didn’t tear anything up,” Brad said. “It was like it was lost in a maze. It wasn’t making any noise either. If it had been walking away from us, we probably never would’ve found it.
“God is just so awesome. The horse was where He said it would be.”
And what was Andrea’s reaction?
“She was excited,” Brad understated. “She couldn’t make much noise when we found it without startling the neighbors. So she told me when we get home she’s going to bury her head in a pillow and scream as loud as she can.”
Brad said the horse looked fine and acted docile on the walk home. It was thirsty, though, drinking two buckets of water.
Though the search ended before it was given any publicity, Brad is still thankful for the outpouring of support the community showed. He said one man who lives near them and owns horses called and offered to help Andrea any way he could in regards to her new friend.
“We’re all excited, and just thank the Lord,” Brad said. “We feel so fortunate.”
