Men rescued from burning boat
Published: October 16, 2005
Two crewmen have been flown to safety after being trapped on board a burning fishing boat.
The Coastal Surveyor, sailing off the west coast of the Isle of Lewis, in the Outer Hebrides, was first reported ablaze at 4.45pm.
The men were rescued from the burning vessel by coastguard helicopter. They were taken ashore and are said to be safe and well.
But the fire continues to rage on board and police said there is a small chance the boat, which has now been burning for several hours, could explode.
It has come to rest on rocks between Carloway and Tolsta Chaolais.
Emergency services are at the scene and they have put measures in place to prevent people from getting near the site.
Northern Constabulary are asking members of the public not to go near the area for safety reasons.
