Canine Evacuee Found Via Internet
Published: October 16, 2005
A dog rescued from the floodwaters of New Orleans in the wake of Hurricane Katrina and flown to San Diego will be reunited with her owner Sunday at the county’s animal shelter.
Robin Lewis is scheduled to arrive on a flight from Texas to pick up the 5-year-old pit bull terrier, Sassy, and take her to the family’s new home in the Lone Star state.
Lewis and his wife were forced to leave Sassy, with food and water, when they evacuated New Orleans on Aug. 27.
When they were able to return four weeks later, the canine was missing.
After looking on the Internet, the couple found out that their dog had been flown to San Diego by animal rescuers.
