A woman miraculously survived on Thursday afternoon when a truck carrying stock feed overturned on the N12 east near Edenvale and fell on her Renault Clio.
“It is unbelievable. Luck was definitely with her today,” Paul Nel, spokesperson for Netcare 911, said.
The woman, whose name has not yet been released, is in a serious but stable condition in Harmelia Hospital in Edenvale.
The accident happened at about 12:00 and five vehicles were involved.
The Clio hit a Mazda, while a motorcycle crashed into a Toyota Venture when the latter apparently braked to avoid hitting the truck.
Banie Booysen from Benoni, who was driving the Mazda, said the truck suddenly veered to the right, dragging the Renault along before it overturned on the Renault. In the process, the Renault hit the Mazda.
Sugan Moodley, spokesperson for the Ekurhuleni emergency services, said three other people were treated on the scene of the accident, but only one of them was admitted to hospital with light injuries.
Superintendent Vusi Mabanga, spokesperson for the Ekurhuleni metro police, said two lanes of the highway were closed and traffic was disrupted for hours.
