Jumped out of window: Lost dog reunited with owner
Published: October 12, 2005
A lucky canine is back in the arms of her owner after being lost for five days.
The dog was riding with her owner when she jumped out of the window.
“We’re just so lucky to have her back,” Tom says.
He’s been driving an 18-wheeler for almost four decades.
For the better part of that career, he’s had a companion by his side.
But last week while making a delivery in Florence, Nelson’s buddy Checkers decided to check-out for a minute and darted out of the truck’s cab.
The canine, a brittany spaniel, was nowhere in sight.
Nelson, having a schedule to keep, had no choice but to make an emotional exit.
He completed his route and when he got home to Minneapolis, he wasted no time climbing back into his personal car and headed back south, driving nine hours to Florence.
The Florence animal control helped in what started as a hopeless effort to find Checkers.
But their efforts paid off, less than a mile from where she was last seen.
“I just can’t believe it. I thought she was surely gone forever. I’m so glad I found her and that she didn’t get hurt,” says Tom.
Checkers does have a broken leg. She was sedated Tuesday afternoon and fitted for a cast. Other than that, she’s fine.
