Several Katrina Victims Reunited With Their Pets

Published: October 11, 2005

Some Katrina victims in New Orleans will get to see their pets again, thanks to the SPCA of Central Florida.

Animal workers brought the pets here to care for them after the Katrina disaster.

Some had been separated from their owners during the storm.

Several owners contacted the SPCA of Central Florida, and now 20 pets have been identified.

“The support that we received from owners who’ve found pets has been overwhelming,” said Jake White with the SPCA of Central Florida. “They appreciate that we’ve taken care of their medical expenses. All the animals have received shots, vaccinations, & tests.”

Two cats were put on a plane headed to New Orleans, this morning.

It may take a few weeks to reunite all of the pets and owners, because on commercial flights, one person can take only one animal at a time.
