129 children rescued from bonded labour

Social workers and police today rescued 129 children from bonded labour in three embroidery units in a south Delhi area.

The boys, aged between 12 and 14 and hailing from West Bengal and Bihar, were rescued after a joint raid by police, social workers and government officials in the embroidery units in Kotla area in south Delhi.

They said they were forced to work for upto 16 hours a day.

The owners of the units managed to escape and cases had been registered against them, police sources said.

The children were later taken to the Mukti Ashram in north-west Delhi.
