Runaway cat hitches ride home under hood of truck

A runaway cat named Diamond found its way home in Rockford by hitching a ride under the hood of a truck.
Diamond, leash and all, had gotten away from her owner last weekend after being spooked by a barking dog and loud car.
A few days later, Patricia Holm found a singed but O-K Diamond lying next to her truck — about five blocks from the cat’s home — and took her to Rockford’s Auburn Animal Clinic.
While the cat was being treated, a clinic assistant had a hunch and went to poke around Holm’s car.
Under the hood was Diamond’s collar and leash.
Aside from a few minor burns, vets say Diamond is going to be fine and is able to return home.
