Lost Little Boy Reunited With Parents
Published: October 7, 2005
A 3-year-old boy found at the Provo Town Center is back with his parents this morning after some very anxious hours.
The young child was found by mall security guards just before 7 Thursday night.
In an attempt to locate the boy’s parents, police contacted the media to get the word out. The boy’s father saw the report and called police.
“They gave us information that had not been released to the public about the boy and feel a hundred percent confident that it was they’re child,” said Dave Moore of the Provo Police Department.
Authorities from child and family services interviewed the parents as well and agreed to release the boy to them.
It all started Thursday afternoon when the child fell asleep in the back of the family’s pick-up truck, according to the boy’s mother. She decided to let him sleep. A short time later, two older daughters asked to take the truck to the mall. The mom said she asked them if the toddler was up and they told her he was playing in the backyard.
So off the girls went to the mall. They parked the truck and went inside. While they were inside, the boy got up and got out of the truck. Mall security later found the boy.
At bedtime, the mother was looking for the boy and asked her son where he was. She frantically started trying to track down the girls but they didn’t have a cell phone.
At the same time, police were trying to find the parents. That’s when they decided to turn to the media.
Police say they will not seek charges against the parents, but DCFS representatives will visit the family.
