Dog Found In New Mexico To Be Reunited With Owners
Published: September 30, 2005
A West Palm Beach boy is waiting for his best friend to return home.
Buddy, a golden retriever, ran away from home when Hurricane Jeanne tore through the area last year.
Despite efforts to find him, Cody Cable and his family could not find Buddy. Cody was heartbroken at the loss of his pet and pal.
On Monday, the phone rang with news about Buddy.
“Someone from New Mexico called me and told me they had my dog, and I just said, ‘No way. You can’t have him. He’s been gone over a year.’ But they scanned the chip, and it came back to me,” said Cody’s mother, Debra Cable.
Somehow Buddy ended up in New Mexico, and now, because of his microchip he’s headed back home.
With help from the Golden Retrievers Rescue League, Buddy will carpool back to South Florida.
“Buddy’s getting from New Mexico here in cars,” Cody said. “People are going to drive him state to state and see that I get him back.”
Cody expects it to be a happy homecoming.
“My mom and me — were going to take him to the park, walk him, get him toys and play in the back yard,” he said.
Cody and Buddy are expected to be reunited this weekend.
