Walk to cure diabetes raises $215,000

Published: September 26, 2005

Hundreds of people took to the pavement to help raise nearly $215,000 dollars for juvenile Diabetes.

The annual “Walk to Cure Diabetes” event at Long Branch Park in Liverpool raises money for research.

Many of the people who took part in Sunday’s walk were supporting someone they know who has the disease.

Kim Michalak, President of the local Juvenile Diabetes Foundation says for children with juvenile diabetes, life can be extremely difficult, “They have to have their blood tested 4 times a day, sometimes 6 times a day. Their parents have to wake them up in the middle of the night to test their blood to make sure that there’s nothing going wrong in the middle of the night, so its a very dangerous disease, because it can be fatal.”

News10now’s parent company Time Warner Cable sponsored the walk.
