Bulldog left in New Orleans reunited with owner in Iowa
Published: September 26, 2005
A woman and the 106-pound bulldog named Prissy that she left behind in flood-ravaged New Orleans have been reunited in Des Moines.
Pam Callahan was forced to leave Prissy and two other dogs behind when rescuers came to evacuate her and other residents from a building when Hurricane Katrina hit.
Callahan found her way back to Iowa where members of her family live. But her dogs were left with a neighbor who tried to take them to a kennel built by Navy sailors.
Callahan’s other two dogs escaped on the way, but Prissy found her way into the hands of a veterinarian and the sailors who pampered her.
The sailors placed Prissy’s photo on a Web site for missing pets and that’s where Callahan found her.
The veterinarian loaded Prissy on a flight to Des Moines and on Saturday, Prissy arrived, wearing Mardi Gras beads.
Callahan says she doesn’t know where her other dogs are but that having Prissy back will help in her healing.
