Dog Paddle at park’s pool a ‘hilarious’ way to help
Published: September 23, 2005
Saturday marks the final day that Forest Park’s pool will be open this year — and only those with fur and four legs can jump in.
For the third year, the Forest Park Aquatic Center will host its annual Dog Paddle — the final swim of the year before the pool is drained and cleaned.
This year’s theme is “Puppy Pool-ooza 2005,” and pool entry is $5 per dog, while those with two legs get in for free. Proceeds from the event, which will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., will go to the Humane Society for Hamilton County and toward maintenance at the aquatic center.
“Last year it was a huge hit, and it was a beautiful day,” said Noblesville Parks Director Don Seal. “It looks like we’re going to have good weather again, and we’re expecting a lot of folks to come out and bring their dogs.”
Randy Crutchfield, who is on the board of managers at the aquatic center, said the event drew about 125 dogs last year, but a lot more are expected this year.
WFBQ-FM (94.7) deejay Laura Steele and her dog Jagger will be on hand. The event is sponsored by the Humane Society, Pet Product Superstores and Dog Dayz Playhouse & Retreat. Crutchfield said he thinks the new sponsorships will be a driving factor in bringing more visitors to the event.
In addition to being able to take a swim, the first 200 dogs in attendance will win a free Frisbee or tennis ball. All dogs must be accompanied by someone 16 or older and must have proof of current vaccinations.
The pool is in the middle of Noblesville’s Forest Park, just north of Ind. 32 and west of Ind. 19. Crutchfield said he encourages anyone who hasn’t attended to come out, because it’s an entertaining experience.
“Seeing all those dogs jumping around and swimming in the pool at once is really amazing,” Crutchfield said. “It’s the most hilarious thing you’ll ever see.”
