Joy as owners are reunited with pet

LINDA Cole feared she would never see her pet dog George again.
But 18 months after the Staffordshire bull terrier disappeared he has been reunited with Mrs Cole after he was discovered by a dog warden who identified him by a microchip.
George escaped through a garden gate in February last year and despite weeks of searching Mrs Cole never laid eyes on her pet again until last week.
“I thought I was never going to get George back,” Mrs Cole said.
As the months rolled by Mrs Cole, of Beeston, Leeds, and her husband Dennis, feared they would never see the dog they had raised from a two-month-old puppy.
Mrs Cole, 45, said: “I’d only had him for nine months. The day he went missing there was a storm. George dashed out through the gate.”
But last week she was amazed when Gavin Jarrett, from Leeds City Council’s dog warden service turned up with George.
He was found wandering on waste ground, and because he was chipped the service was able to trace Mrs Cole.
She added: “No-one knows where he’s been. I wonder if someone just saw him and decided to take him because he’s got a lovely temperament.”
And on his first night back George was treated to his favourite, cooked chicken.
Hayley Thackwray, the council’s dog warden supervisor, said it proved microchips were a reliable way of recording a dog’s details.
