Three-Year-Old Reunited with Parents
Published: September 17, 2005
For 15-days, a three-year-old little boy was listed as a ‘John Doe.’
He was separated from his parents before Katrina made landfall. That’s when his whole world was turned upside down.
The little boy is being called a survivor. When Katrina hit, he wasn’t with his parents.
His mother, Shantelle Antoine, says he was with a babysitter. She says she had made arrangements made to pick him up.
But, she never made it. Dialysis, a lack of transportation and cell phone service kept the young mother away.
She was escorted out of New Orleans to Lafayette and assumed her son, David, was too. He was, but ended up in the Lone Star State, alone and frightened.
David was soon placed in protective custody and listed as one of many missing children.
His mother says he had none of his own belongings. That is, until David’s great-grandmother recognized his photo on national television.
Texas and Louisiana authorities worked together to make a reunion a reality.
He didn’t say it, but it was obvious little David was finally at peace.
David and his parents still have a lot of adjusting to do. They’re in a new place. They just moved in. They have no belongings and they’re searching for extra cash. But, they’re all together and at this point, they say that’s all that matters.
The Antoines are planning a fun day for little David. After that, mom and dad plan on signing up for college.
