Twin Sisters, 98, Reunite In Fort Worth
Published: September 14, 2005
Twin sisters from New Orleans who became separated after Hurricane Katrina have been reunited in Texas.
One of the women, who arrived nearly two weeks ago at Plaza Medical Center of Fort Worth, had a tag around her neck that said: “Halphen.” She said her first name was Carmen, and couldn’t remember much more.
The 98-year-old woman turned out to be Carmen Bourdonnay, whose maiden name is Halphen. Bourdonnay continually asked volunteers for her twin sister, Carmelite.
Carmelite Dauenhauer turned up in Atlanta and with the help of two nurses, one in Texas and another in Georgia, the separated twins were reunited with the help of the Red Cross Web site on Monday.
The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports a neighbor with a canoe had rescued the twins from the home they shared with relatives. The twins at some point became separated.
