3 Family Members Reunited In Fort Smith
Published: September 13, 2005
Three family members were reunited Monday after becoming separated in a chaotic New Orleans.
Helen Johnson has been staying in Fort Smith, her husband, Eugene, was in San Antonio, and grandson Charles traveled from city to city trying to find them both. With the help of American Red Cross volunteers, they eventually located each other.
It was nothing short of heartwarming, said Eugene Johnson.
“I’m feeling joy, plenty of joy,” said Eugene Johnson. “This is one of the best days of my life. Money couldn’t buy this.”
The grandson said the reunion and the Red Cross assistance was a blessing.
“It’s a blessing,” said Charles Johnson. “It’s like always when I was a kid, I would say, ‘I want this, I want that’ as far as gifts go, but this is the biggest gift I have ever had.”
“I didn’t think about all the things that I lost; I was thinking about them. This is the most important,” he said.
The Johnsons said they will stay in the Fort Smith area for a few days until they figure out where to live. Charles Johnson said he wants to enroll in a new college as soon as he can.
