Three-legged cat has nine lives and one happy owner

Published: September 12, 2005

A twist of fate has reunited Shepparton resident Kristy Joynson with her missing three-legged Siamese cat Missy after she wandered off from Ms Joynson’s home last week.

Missy was found by nearby resident Cindy Geraghty, who took the cat to the pound for safe-keeping, not knowing that Missy’s owner lived just a few houses down the street.

Ms Geraghty then placed an advertisement in a nearby milkbar in the hope of finding Missy’s owner.

“It’s not often you see a Siamese three-legged cat at your door,” Ms Geraghty said.

Luckily, Ms Joynson saw the ad while at the milkbar the very same day and with the help of the proprietor was able to locate Missy at the pound.

The shopkeeper also let Ms Geraghty know that Missy’s owner had called in to the shop, and was able to assist Ms Joynson in having Missy released from the pound in the nick of time.

Missy was at the pound for a week and a few days later would have been rehoused or put down.

“They (the rangers) were wonderful - they were really helpful,” Ms Geraghty said.

Now that Missy is safe and well at home, Ms Joynson said she was delighted to have her back after her anxious wait.

“I was concerned - if I saw one (a stray cat) I’d probably want to keep it,” she said.

“I’ve had lots of cats but none compare to her.”
