Teacher Saddles Up To Avoid High Gas Prices

Published: September 10, 2005

Once gas prices hit $3 a gallon, a high school teacher in western Wisconsin decided to see a man about a horse.

Arcadia art teacher Carl McKeeth is riding his horse to work each day, saving him upward of $40 a week on gas.

He’s also doing it to make a statement — riding his horse to work is one way he can conserve on gasoline, he said.

It takes McKeeth an hour and 15 minutes to ride his horse from home to Arcadia High School.

The principal allowed him to build a pen for his ride — but drew the line at McKeeth’s request for an electric fence.
