Salvation Army begins housing people
Published: September 6, 2005
The Salvation Army began housing 150 displaced persons at the Eagle Crest Camp near Peoria on Monday.
Major Dawn Heatwole of The Salvation Army in Peoria says, “We do not yet know the ages, the health issues, how long the stay will be, the logistical issues that will be faced, but we do know that we have the bed space, a beautiful camp that was provided by God and volunteers who will come alongside us to do what needs to be done.”
A team of volunteer doctors and nurses from St. Francis hospital in Peoria will be on site to provide each person a medical examination.
Officials and volunteers with the Salvation Army in Macomb will do their part to help the victims in Peoria.
In the first of many anticipated trips to Peoria, Captains Owen and Susan Thompson of Macomb left for the camp after conducting Sunday worship services. They took food items, new children’s clothing, toys and games, and family friendly videos and DVD’s. While there, the Thompsons will also take note of any additional needs the camp guests may have and share that information with our community.
Owen Thompson said prayer continues to be the greatest contribution we can all make regardless of our financial or physical abilities.
Thompson wants to thank everyone for supporting The Salvation Army as we continue to minister to those in need by doing the most good.
