Armed police rescue boy kidnapped in London

Published: August 26, 2005

Armed police freed a 15-year boy kidnapped on a north London street and held hostage, Scotland Yard said on Friday.

The boy was taken from a street in Tottenham on Thursday night and frogmarched to a car by his kidnappers.

Armed police later rescued him from a Rover car in a nearby street, following an operation by Scotland Yard’s kidnap unit, specialist firearms unit and its surveillance team. No shots were fired.

The boy suffered minor injuries and is recovering in hospital.

Police arrested four men, all from north London and aged between 19 and 22. All were charged with false imprisonment and blackmail, and two were further charged with kidnap.

Investigating officers say one possible motive for the kidnap could be a feud between two north London groups.
