Breakthrough Treatment Of Parkinson’s

Published: August 19, 2005

A breakthrough in the treatment of Parkinson’s disease…doctors are attempting to cure Parkinson’s disease by altering the genetic material inside the brain cells.

Dr. Michael Kaplitt of New York Presbyterian Weill Cornell Medical Center is a pioneer in the effort. He says, “It’s theoretically the ultimate realization of all this information that we gained from the human genome project and all the science we’ve done over the last 40 to 50 years.”

In August of 2003, Nathan Klein agreed to be the first person in the world to undergo the gene therapy procedure.
Now 2 years later, the results from the study are just about to be released.
