Real estate company donates at every sale

Published: August 17, 2005

Every agent, every closing, every time. At RE/MAX Ocean Realty, every agent makes a donation to Children’s Miracle Network (CMN) at every real estate closing. Since starting the donations in May 2000 the company has donated just over $25,000 to the fund.

“All four of our offices have been designated as Miracle Offices by the Children’s Miracle Network,” says Carol Hunsecker, a broker at RE/MAX Ocean Realty who voluntarily coordinates the company’s charitable donations each year. “To classify as a Miracle Office, 100% of all agents and brokers must make a donation from their commission to CMN at every closing.” To encourage participation, owner and broker John Stubbings matches each donation to CMN.

Each year, the Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters thanks RE/MAX Ocean Realty by sending a drawing from someone who has benefited from the donations the hospital receives. They’ve just received this year’s drawing from Lindsey Miller of Virginia Beach - and were thrilled to see “Princess Lindsay is cancer free!” on her drawing. “We requested that all of our donations go directly to Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters in Norfolk,” explained Hunsecker. “We want to help kids that are close to home.”

RE/MAX International has been an official sponsor of Children’s Miracle Network since 1992, and has raised more than $56 million since that time. CMN is the alliance of premier children’s hospitals. Every year, CMN hospitals treat 17 million children for every disease and injury imaginable. CMN hospitals impact the lives of more children than any other children’s organization in the world.

In addition to CMN, brokers and agents at RE/MAX Ocean Realty donate to other charities at each real estate transaction, based on personal choice. In 2004, the agents donated more than $25,000 to several charities, including CMN, Hotline, Dare County Arts Council, the Realtor’s Scholarship Fund, Relay for Life, K.I.D.S, Babe Ruth, OBX Storm and the Food Pantry.
