In exchange for a free back-to-school do, students and parents were encouraged to donate school supplies.

“It makes them feel good,” said the salon’s Arthur Rivers. “I look at some of them now when they get their hair fixed and they’re laughing, having fun.”

The supplies will be donated to local children’s centers.

Isia’s salon hopes to offer free back-to-school haircuts every year.
