Scruffy the dog comes home
Published: August 7, 2005
IRENE HARTNEY has been reunited with her much-loved dog Scruffy – and she couldn’t be happier.
Scruffy was in Miss Hartney’s car when it was stolen from Heads Rd last week, and she feared she wouldn’t see her pup again.
She publicly pleaded with the thieves to return Scruffy and said she didn’t care as much about the car.
“I’m over the moon. He came flying at me and just flew into my arms,” she said.
Scruffy was found wandering along Fox Rd, Springvale, by a young couple who recognised him from a photo in the Chronicle.
They called the police, who returned him to Miss Hartney.
Last week, she appealed for Scruffy to be returned and enlisted the help of the Mongrel Mob to get him back.
She’s positive the thieves would have been scared of the Mongrel Mob’s involvement, which led to his return.
“I want to thank the Mob for letting me use their name.
I’ll be shouting them a couple of dozen,” she said.
The couple who found Scruffy will also be rewarded.
Miss Hartney said she had never smiled so much since Scruffy returned.
“I want to thank the police for all their help too,” she said.
