Man rescued after fall in Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone
Published: August 5, 2005
A man fell 40 feet into the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone and was rescued by a ranger who rappelled down and helped him walk out.
Retan Seth, 27, of India, said afterward that he was so overwhelmed with the sight of the canyon at Artist Point on Wednesday that he ran off an established trail and began taking photos.
He was wearing flip-flop sandals and lost his footing on the loose volcanic rock near the edge.
He fell into a drainage near the main canyon, according to park officials.
After Seth made several attempts to climb out, a park interpreter urged him to wait to be rescued.
A ranger then rappelled down and swung with Seth to an area where they could walk out.
Seth had minor cuts to his forehead and refused medical treatment.
