Canadian man called hero for pulling passengers to safety

Published: August 4, 2005

A Canadian man is being hailed as a hero, after he helped pull survivors from the burning wreckage of an Air France jet Tuesday.

Guy Ledez, a rental car agency manager, says he was driving around the airport when the jet crashed and caught fire.

As other cars made quick U-turns to get away, Ledez drove toward the jet and pulled passengers from the wreckage.

Ledez and another bystander even climbed back into the plane and did a quick sweep to make sure nobody had been left behind. Everyone on the plane survived.

Ledez says he didn’t really think about the danger until after he jumped back out of the plane and there was an explosion.

He has his own theories on what happened, believing that lightning might have struck the aircraft as it came down.
