Couple reunited after 50 years via web

A couple who met 50 years ago on a blind date at Carrow Road have been reunited thanks to a popular website.
Paul Denton and Pamela Parfitt have met up and become best of friends after not seeing each other for half a century.
The pair met in Norwich in March 1956 and dated for six months before Mr Denton completed his National Service and moved home to Luton.
While the couple kept up a long-distance relationship for a few more months, the 100-mile journey soon became a barrier and the two drifted apart.
But the former lovebirds have now met once more after emailing each other through Friends Reunited.
While both Mr Denton and Ms Parfitt have since married and now have children and grandchildren, they are pleased to have come into contact with each other again.
Ms Parfitt, 66, of Netherwood Green, Lakenham, said: “I remember the day we met we went to see Norwich City play against Walsall - I think it was a draw. It was 1956 and I was 17 and he was 20, nearly 21.
“After that we went out for about nine months. When Paul moved back to Luton we carried on seeing each other for a little while but the distance was much more difficult in those days.
“I was still in Norwich and we saw each other once a fortnight for a little while but it came to an end eventually.
“We met up through Friends Reunited and started emailing each other. When we met up again we went for lunch and spent a lot of time reminiscing about people we used to know and things we used to do.
“It was quite emotional and a bit strange because it feels like we know each other very well even though we haven’t seen each other for such a long time.
“The only difference is we’re just a bit older now,” added the mother-of-two and grandmother-of-three.
Mr Denton, who now has two children and four grandchildren, said: “I was staying in Horsham St Faith when we met and we were very fond of each other at the time but the distance became a problem when I moved back to Luton.
At the end of it we parted saying that we would keep in contact but we lost touch after a while.
In the end their relationship ended and Mr Denton has been happily married to his wife Jill, 69, for 45 years. But since meeting up with Pam, the three pensioners have become good friends.
“We all get on very well - it is almost as if we haven’t been apart. We have reminisced about our old friends and each other’s families because we knew each other’s mums and dads very well.
“When Pam and I met we found we had a common interest in badminton. I have since been to the Sports Village in Norwich to play badminton with her.
“I have always been a football fan supporting Luton and we now hope to meet up to watch Luton play Norwich,” he added.
