Two girls rescued from fairgrounds ride

Published: July 25, 2005

Two teenaged girls got more than they expected when they took a ride in a bungee lift at the Orange County Fair this afternoon.

A cable snapped on the ride, which is supposed to snap the people up into the air and then free-fall to the length of the guide cables.

One of those cables snapped so when the ride went up, it tumbled and left the two girls suspended high above the fairgrounds in the Town of Wallkill for about 45 minutes.

Crews from the Mechanicstown Fire Department brought special bucket trucks in to rescue the girls who had to be harnessed and brought to safety, fire officials said.

They were not injured, but were brought to Orange Regional Medical Center’s Horton Campus for observation.
