Generous girl donates new bike

Inda Blatch-Geib — executive director of Akron’s Character Counts — truly does practice at home what she preaches in the community at large: doing the right thing.
“Souji — our 7-year-old daughter — received a new bike as an award for perfect attendance from her school (Leggett Elementary) this year,” Blatch-Geib wrote.
Souji was one of 33 students at the school who were rewarded with bikes.
“She already has a bike, and the location of our home does not allow for her to use it much,” her mom continued. “So, she would like to donate the purple, 20-inch girl’s bike with a helmet.”

The Twelve Gifts of BirthBlatch-Geib said that, although her daughter was excited about winning something, “she recognized that it wasn’t right for her to keep it when someone else would take better advantage of it…. We’ve always tried to stress with our four children (ages 3 through 15) the importance of volunteering and serving others, and that if everybody gave a little bit the world would have no problems.”
So, I made a few calls on Souji’s behalf and found a good home in Canton for the bike.
The lucky recipient is 6-year-old Olivia Mathewson, whose own bike was stolen a few weeks ago.
