18-Wheeler Eats Ferrari, Spits Out Dad, Daughter & Dog Safe

In yet another accident along Interstate 20, Shreveport-Bossier’s third in 24 hours, an 18-wheeler gobbled up the Ferrari in front of it, injuring the driver and stalling eastbound traffic for over an hour Wednesday afternoon.
It happened around 3 p.m. along the Hearne Avenue overpass. Just like Tuesday’s fatal wreck in Bossier City, which took place due to a momentary lack of focus by the driver of a big rig who failed to see the car in front of him, this accident is also believed to have been the result of a trucker whose attention was not focused on the road until it was too late.
“He said he was doing the normal speed and that he’d looked down to adjust his radio,” said Brian Crawford, assistant to Shreveport’s fire chief. “When he looked up, he saw the Ferrari stopped, he said, in the outside lane. He believed there was a flat tire involved.”
Accident investigators will eventually determine if that was indeed the case. And it looks like they’ll be able to interview the driver of the Ferrari, who is recovering from “serious” injuries at LSU Hospital.
“If you look at the damage done to the Ferrari, I think we’re lucky anyone walked away alive,” Crawford said.
Also walking away, the driver’s 11-year-old daughter, who was treated for a scraped knee at the scene and then transported for precautionary measures, and their tiny chihuahua puppy, who remained at the scene in the care of a police officer who was treated to a facial cleaning by the dog.
“The dog sustained no injuries,” Crawford said.
