Stiletto-heeled pals’ fire rescue
Published: June 29, 2005
Two young women getting ready for a night out used their stilettos to break down the door of a burning house and rescue an elderly woman.
Hannah Oxby, 20, and Emma Richardson, 19, heard shouting in the street outside their home in Lincoln and ran out to find smoke coming from a house.
The pair kicked down the wooden front door with their high heels before leading the pensioner to safety.
The elderly woman was treated for minor smoke inhalation at hospital.
Miss Oxby and Miss Richardson had been getting dressed for a night out when they heard shouting outside their home in Victoria Passage.
Miss Oxby said: “We had just got back from a concert before getting ready to go into town.
“We heard someone shouting and banging on the door, so we went running outside to see what was happening.”
The pair sprung into action on Saturday night when neighbours told them the elderly woman was still in the property.
Emergency services
“We just jumped over the gate and knocked on the door but there wasn’t any answer, so we had to kick it down,” said Miss Oxby.

Emergency services then arrived at the scene and the pair, both residential support workers at a Lincolnshire school, went with the woman to hospital.
She was released the same night and stayed at the pair’s home for the night.
