Bay area girl makes flip flops for charity

Raffi, Alice’s Mother:
“Alice is very artsy. She is creative. She is intelligent, and she loves to be in front of a camera.”

If Raffi sounds like a proud mom, she is.
She’s proud of her daughter’s creative skills, and proud that Alice is using them to raise money for children who don’t have all the toys and clothes that she does.

“There are things that are hard for us like a Disney vacation, but we know we’re going to be able to get pencils and notebooks for school, and she’s got 50 Barbie dolls, and there are little girls out there that have never held a Barbie doll, and those are the people we need to help.”

Alice calls her project, Frou Frou Flip Flops.

Alice:
“I like it because I can express myself.”

She and her mom create individual flip flops, with the colors and decorations their customers request.

“She wanted aqua and blue and to kind of look like the colors of the water, she said.”

They sell the shoes on line, and Alice gives the money to charities in the bay area.

“She was really looking for a way to raise money for the children who lived through the tsunami, and she kept asking me if she could do a lemonade stand, and I said, I didn’t think that would raise the type of money she was looking to give.”

“Cause I know I’ve got a lot more money than just me myself, and so I like to give money to them in charity. So I feel like I’m not greedy, and it makes me feel good.”
