Using shades to shed light on charity

Published: June 18, 2005

Bromsgrove District Council chair Jill Dyer MBE will be donning her shades on Tuesday (June 21), to help publicise the good work of the Guide Dogs for the Blind.

And Coun Dyer MBE is urging other residents to join her in supporting the charity’s national Shades Day by wearing sunglasses to work or school and making a donation to the cause.

Coun Dyer said: “It is very important that we look after our eyes especially when the sun shines - we are all aware of the sun’s harmful effects on our skin, but the effects on our eyes are less well known.

“It is vital that we all realise the importance of eye care.”

On Monday (June 13) Coun Dyer met up with local guide dog owner Paula Dufour and her companion Riley, a five-year-old Golden Retriever Labrador cross.
