Women go on bra walk for charity

Published: June 16, 2005

Five women from Widmer End have been decorating their underwear in preparation for an unusual charity walk.

Andrea Reed, Cathy Bryant, Nicky Wells, Geri Lancaster and Sue Cavalier will be walking a half marathon in London on Saturday to raise money for Breast Cancer Research and Cancer Care.

The Playtex Moonwalk event attracts around 15,000 men and women who must all wear bras which they decorate themselves. Sue Cavalier reckons that the women have raised around £1,000.

She said: “Everybody knows somebody that has been affected by breast cancer and so I think it’s important to do something to make a difference.”

The walk begins just after 11pm and the ladies, who are walking 13 miles, hope to complete the course in two and a half hours.
