Newspaper carrier gives alarm, resident of burning home rescued

One person was rescued from a house early Saturday after a newspaper delivery person spotted fire on the roof.

San Ramon Valley Fire received the report of a fire in the 600 block of Park Hill Road about 5:20 a.m., according to a press release. Police got the resident safely out of the house. No one was injured.

Eventually 23 firefighters and four engines, some from Contra Costa Fire, responded. The fire was controlled in about 30 minutes.

Investigators estimate damage at about $200,000. The cause is under investigation.
