72 minors rescued from Mumbai small scale units

In an operation undertaken by the state labour department in the metropolis, 72 minors were rescued on Friday from various small-scale units.
“Seventy-two children were rescued in the operation undertaken by the labour department,” Additional Commissioner, Labour, PT Jagtap said.
He said four owners of the units employing minors were also taken into custody and handed over to police.
Some owners managed to escape from their units and the police have been asked to search for them, Jagtap said.
The minors rescued in the operation conducted at Bhuleshwar and Kalbadevi area are not kept in VP Road police station and would be handed over to the Child and Welfare Department so that they can be sent to children’s home.
Meanwhile, state Woman and Child Welfare Minister Harshwardhan Patil visited the police station and met rescued children.
The rescue team includes officials and representatives of NGOs force, Jagtap said, adding, the operation would continue to make the city free of child labour in six months.
Police had recently rescued 446 minors from various zari units in the city.
