Rescue Crews Aid Men, Boys After Canoe Capsizes On River
Published: June 9, 2005
Water rescue crews came to the aid of two adults and two young boys after their canoe flipped over on the Missouri River Wednesday.
KMBC’s Emily Aylward reported that a father, his two young boys, and an adult friend had intended to stick near a ramp and fish along the banks.
But after heavy rains, the river was moving fast and took them with it, flipping them over downstream.
“There are canoes out here all the time, but with rains it’s a little more hazardous than normal,” Deputy Fire Chief John Bruno said.
Another man fishing in the area saw the canoe capsize. He called 911 with his cell phone and directed firefighters, water rescue crews and police to the site.
Water rescue crews helped the men and boys back to shore.
