Dog Rescued from Storm Sewer

Published: June 9, 2005

Workers from the Philadelphia Water Department, aided by Philadelphia Police K-9 officers, rescued a dog from a storm sewer in Fairmount Park Wednesday.

They used a water department crane to lift the 100-pound Rottweiler from the 40-foot deep sewer.

The Pennsylvania SPCA thinks the dog may have floated into the base of the sewer from the Schuylkill River.

The dog, which appeared dehydrated but not badly hurt, was taken to the SPCA for examination.
