Miracle Monday: Man Bounces Back from Aneurysm
Published: June 7, 2005
The leaves have never seemed so green to 23-year-old Josh Johnson and his wife, Dusty, as the two walked through a garden. The young, married couple is seeing life in a whole new way.
“Don’t take life for granted. You never know how long you’re going to have on this Earth, so just make the most of it,” says Josh.
That’s been their approach for the past few months ever since Josh got a second chance doctors didn’t think he would get.
It was February 27th and Josh had just collapsed in the bathtub. His wife thought it was another of Josh’s usual jokes. It was really a ruptured brain aneurysm.
Dusty says, “He was in the bathtub, and I was like ‘quit playing with me.’ And he was like ‘I’m not.’ And I was like ‘get up.’ And he couldn’t. I thought he was joking at first, but then I realized he was serious.”
She rushed her husband to the hospital and eventually, doctors had to cut open his scalp. “He could have died during the bleed or during the surgery,” she says.
The surgery went fine, but Josh was told he might never be able to use the left side of his body again. Within weeks, the 23-year-old was walking. Now, his left arm is the only thing that hasn’t recovered.
“It’s a pretty big change in my life,” says Josh.
But doctors say it’s only a matter of time until he’s one hundred percent. Until then, his wife is doing the driving and Josh is enjoying the vacation whether he wanted it or not.
“I’ve always wanted a vacation, but not this way. This is not the way to get a vacation.”
