Walkers raise more than $5 million for breast cancer cure

Published: June 5, 2005

Marathon walkers in Chicago this weekend raised more than five (m) million dollars for the fight against breast cancer.
About 24-hundred participants walked a full marathon’s distance through the city’s streets yesterday — 26-point-two miles.

They endured a fierce thunderstorm yesterday and camped out at a local park overnight.

It’s the third time the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer has come through Chicago. The event raises money for medical research and to provide access to care for cancer victims.

The group sponsors seven other walks planned for cities around the country this summer.
