Lost & found: Wandering toddler, mom reunited in Hollywood

Published: June 4, 2005

What police feared could become a tragedy ended happily on Friday when a mother was reunited with her lost 3-year-old daughter.

Det. Carlos Negron, police spokesman, said no charges are planned against Graciela Pellot. An examination found the girl to be in good condition with no sign of neglect.

Two women found the barefoot youngster around 7:40 a.m. crying at the corner of Coolidge and North 24th Avenue. They called police when they couldn’t find a parent. Officers launched a search, asking for the public’s help, but a few minutes later they received a call from a woman inquiring about her daughter.

The mother told of waking up, finding her front door open and the child gone, and called police.

The girl, it turned out, was found only a half-block from her house.

“It’s lucky she was found by the two women; it could have been God knows who,” Negron added. “This is a story with a happy ending.”
