McKeesport fire victim rescued
Published: June 2, 2005
McKeesport Deputy Fire Chief Ed Harmon rescued an unconscious woman after he stumbled over her in a smoke-filled building yesterday morning.
Fire Chief Kevin Lust said firefighters knew they were heading to an occupied home on Steele Street. The fire had filled the house with smoke by the time firefighters arrived and no one knew if anyone was inside.
When Harmon stepped inside, Lust said, the smoke was so thick he couldn’t see what was in front of him. Then, just six feet from the door, he tripped over the occupant, a 47-year-old woman.
Harmon carried her out and she was taken to UPMC McKeesport, then flown to UPMC Presbyterian, where she was being treated for smoke inhalation.
