MILK Run 2005, a quarter-marathon organised by voluntary welfare organisation Beyond Social Services, hopes to raise S$1 million to help fight juvenile delinquency.
Ten-year-old Muhd Khairul Bin Abdul Khalid has been training hard for the race since February.
He came in 13th two years ago but hopes to make top spot this year.
“I’ve been thinking that I’ll be first and I will win a gold medal and win money for Beyond Social Services,” he said.
Organisers say the Milk Run is also a youth day celebration to show society that young offenders can overcome their shortcomings and contribute to society.
And that was what touched PSA Corp to step in as a first-time sponsor.
Some 200 staff of the terminal operator are also volunteering at Beyond Social Services, providing tuition to needy kids and training with some of them for the run.
Said Daniel Foo, operations manager at PSA Corp, “Through all these projects like the MILK Runs here, these children have gained a lot of confidence, a lot of determination and discipline. Week by week, they gain a lot of such attributes and it’s a very helpful cause.”
