Girls Rescued From High-Running River

Published: May 27, 2005

Four girls were rescued safely after they became stranded on an island while trying to swim in the runoff-swollen Virgin River.

Washington County sheriff’s Lt. Cory Pulsipher said one girl got into deep water Thursday afternoon and became stuck because of the current.

“The others went out and all got swept away but made it to an island in the middle of the river,” Pulsipher said.

They realized the water was too swift for them to try to swim back, so they stayed where they were and began calling for help.

They were brought to shore in a boat.
