Joggers set the pace in heart charity fun run
Published: May 12, 2005
Kind-hearted people will jog around a Carlisle park to raise cash for charity this evening.
All have links with the British Heart Foundation Shop in the city’s English Street.
Manager Angela Hope said: “About 15 of us are taking part in the Hearts First Carlisle city jog.
“There are workers, family members and friends and we have called ourselves Les and the Pacemakers.
“That is in honour of Les Forster, a volunteer here, who is in his 70s and has just had a pacemaker fitted.”
The jog takes place in Bitts Park from 6pm and all money raised goes to the British Heart Foundation.
Angela said: “We have all been sponsored and we can do as many laps as we like up until 7.45pm but the main idea is to have fun.
“Money raised will go back into the local community because that is the way the BHF operates.”
The BHF has helped fund more than 40 defibrillators for First Responder Groups and Cuedoc in north Cumbria and awarded £400,000 to the North Cumbria Acute Hospitals NHS Trust to provide three heart failure nurses.
